Royal Photographic Society Distinction

I am really happy to report that I have been awarded a Licentiate Distinction by the Royal Photographic Society.

I was required to present a panel of prints for examination by the Society Distinction Panel. The whole process took the best part of a day, and was pretty nerve wracking. A hundred or so spectators didn't help either! It is always difficult to be judged on your work, even though I am confident that I always give of my best. Being judged by the best photographers in the Society makes the process even more hazardous but doubly rewarding having achieved the goal.

Below is my hanging plan for the panel, all were displayed as A3 prints in 50x40cm ivory mounts. Hope you get the idea, all totally different images, yet cohesive in presentation. The criteria for Distinction are: Presentation, overall impression, variety of approach, technique, camera work, lighting and exposure, depth of field control, highlight and shadow control, tonal control, colour management, seeing and visual awareness, mood and texture, composition and design, communication of idea, narrative and control of the medium, Finally; imagination and creativity is expected, and an ability to capture the decisive moment.

If you would like to see larger versions of the individual images, they are all in various portfolios on this website.
