JANUARY PICTURE OF THE MONTH

24th January 2012
Well here we are nearing the end of January, fairly busy already I'm glad to say!. I thought it might be a good idea this year to add a picture every month as part of a news item and maybe tell you a bit about the image, How I got it and how I processed it afterwards and anything else that may be of interest.

This picture was taken last summer (remember that? - no me neither!) at a medieval re-enactment event at a country fair. I had an idea for an image of a horse that I wanted to do. My own version of 'The Warhorse'. The finished image was in my mind's eye for ages before I got a chance to do anything about it! I knew that the show horses were exercised early in the morning before many people were about. I was up and about very early just to catch the stunt horses being exercised without bridles, and just responding to the trainers voice.

I had a chat to the trainer who was happy to let me do what I wanted as long as I didn't get to close or use flash. I made a number of images before I got exactly what I wanted, working fast trying to make sure I didn't run out of time before the exercise period was called to a halt.

I am fairly pleased with the final result. More or less what I had in mind all those months ago.
The image was shot in RAW format on a Nikon D300, then processed in 'Lightroom' and 'Photoshop'.
